Capturing 360° Photos with Insta360 Cameras

Before you can begin taking 360° photos in the app, you need to activate your camera.

In this article:

Supported Hardware

Encircle’s Insta360 integration supports the following Insta360 models:

  • X3 (including Docusketch DS1—a branded version of the X3)
  • X4 (including X4 Air)
  • X5

Connecting to Your Camera's Network

Insta360 cameras provide their own WiFi network, which is how your phone talks to the camera.

  • Power on your camera.
  • Open your phone's WiFi settings.
  • From the list of available networks, select your camera's network.

You may want to extend the camera's Auto Sleep and Auto Power Off settings so the camera doesn't shut off while you're using it.

I don't see my camera in my WiFi settings!

Once you've activated your camera (via the Insta360 app), your phone will remember the network and be easy to connect to.

However, if you don't see the camera's network listed there, try opening the Insta360 app and reconnecting to the camera there. You will be prompted to join the network.

*This should only ever be necessary as a troubleshooting step. It is not required to reconnect to your camera in the Insta360 app every time you wish to use it with Encircle.

Capturing 360° Photos

  1. In the room where you want to take the photo, tap the red + button.
  2. Select Add Photos & Videos.
    • Or select Add Room Note if you wish to add the photo to a note.
  3. When the camera opens, select 360° mode.
  4. Select Connect to Insta360.
    • If you take multiple 360° photos in the same session, you shouldn't have to click this each time, as the app will remember your last selection.

  5. Tap the white capture button to take a photo.
  6. The camera snaps a photo from the front lens, then the rear lens, and stitches them into one 360° photo.

  7. You can review the photo and retake if necessary. Otherwise, tap Save.
  8. Tap Done when finished taking photos.
