Dry Standards help you determine when wet materials are considered dry. In Encircle, Dry Standards are specific to material and meter.
Learn how to enter your dry standards and get your drying goals for the job.
Glossary of Terms
Dry Standard |
Determined by taking moisture content (MC) readings from known dry materials in an undamaged area of structure (sometimes referred to as normal EMC). |
Drying Goal |
The target moisture level that may be the same as the dry standard or within an acceptable proximity of the dry standard. *Hydro considers a material "dry" when it reaches the Drying Goal. |
Drying Variance |
IICRC S500 V5 2021 recommends the drying goal to be within 10% of the dry standard. *Encircle Hydro will default your Drying Variance to 10% but you can adjust this to your preference. |
Dry standards and drying goals are essential for effective drying. It’s important to take a drying standard on-site whenever possible, as different homes or projects may require different drying standards.
If you’re unable to get a dry standard because there are no unaffected rooms onsite, then you can determine the dry standard by using your knowledge of geographical regions, experience from previous projects, or a reference from a similar structure. In that scenario you would want to note where your dry standard came from.
Entering Dry Standards
- Open the Dry Standard task.
- Select the material you're measuring. If the material you need isn’t listed, you can add it using the + Add button on the right.
- Tap Add Meter Photo and snap a meter photo.
- Next to Meter, tap Change.
- Select a Meter and Probe Type. Tap Change Meter to save. *The system will remember this selection going forward. In other words, whenever you select this material in the app, it will default to this meter.
- Enter the Moisture Content.
- A Drying Variance of 10% will be applied by default, but can be adjusted to your preference. This will give you your Drying Goal.
- (Optional) Add a note (e.g where your dry standard came from).
- Tap Save.
If you need to add drying standards for additional materials, tap the red + button and repeat the process until you have a dry standard for every wet material on the job.
Entering Dry Standards via Bluetooth (Tramex)
Dry Standard material readings can also be taken via bluetooth with the Tramex MEX5 or CME5 meters.
With your drying standards set, you’re now ready to begin working in the chamber!
